Role Overview

Octopus Energy is at the forefront of the global energy transition, developing innovative technology and products that make energy greener, smarter, and more affordable.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Data Analyst to join the Flexibility team, supporting the development of next-generation energy products and trading strategies. This role will play a key part in analysing performance, modelling optimisation challenges, and identifying opportunities across flexibility and energy trading markets.

The successful candidate will work across large and complex datasets, using analytical insight, simulation modelling, and technical investigation to help shape product strategy and business decisions. Working closely with stakeholders across technical and commercial teams, you will contribute to products used by millions of customers while helping accelerate renewable energy adoption and Net Zero initiatives globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse internal and external datasets to identify trends, behaviours, and trading opportunities

  • Build simulation models and conduct investigations to support optimisation strategies

  • Use Python and SQL to automate analysis, reporting, and data transformation pipelines

  • Support product and trading strategy through data-driven insights and modelling

  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear recommendations for stakeholders

  • Collaborate across technical and commercial teams to support flexibility market initiatives

The Successful Applicant

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Quantitative degree with 5+ years’ experience in a relevant analytical role

  • Previous experience working within energy markets is essential

  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to support strategic decision-making

  • Advanced experience using Python and SQL for analysis and modelling

  • Experience working with complex datasets and building analytical models

  • Ability to manage ambiguous or poorly defined analytical briefs

  • Strong data visualisation and stakeholder communication skills

  • Agile and solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills

  • Genuine interest in sustainability, green energy, and Net Zero systems

Technical & Platform Knowledge

  • Python

  • SQL

  • DBT (desirable)

  • Data modelling and simulation techniques

  • Dashboarding and data visualisation tools

  • Data transformation and analytics pipelines

Desirable

  • Experience within flexibility markets, energy trading, or renewable energy sectors

  • Knowledge of optimisation modelling and market bidding strategies

  • Experience supporting commercially focused analytical investigations

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments
